Applying for a visa

  • Can somebody apply for me?

    No. The applicant must apply in person. Travel agents or other individuals are not allowed to represent the applicant, except in some case specified by the Consulate general of France in Shanghai.

  • Is my passport valid for France?

    The validity period of your passport shall exceed by 3 months the date when you plan to leave France. If the validity of your passport is not adequate, you must apply for an extension or renewal of your passport.

    The visa section shall not affix a visa on a passport:

    • whose original laminated film (the transparent safety film that covers the passport photo) has been tampered with (you must ask the authority issuing the passport to make it tamperproof again) ;
    • where any pages or surfaces have been laminated; this renders the passport invalid;
    • where there are traces of deletion, scratching or alteration ;
    • that was issued over 10 years ago, even if it is still valid at the time when the visa application is submitted (you must apply for a new passport from the Chinese authorities or the Embassy / Consulate of your country of origin).

    Be sure the passport has blank "visa" pages left to affix the visa.

    We strongly advice you not to submit a passport issued for multiple persons (parent and child/children together). We strongly advise that you submit individual passports, and the visas will be issued individually.
